So having seen a great flare drop from the F18A Superhornets, I went down to South Bank just before 3pm, intending to camp out my spot from last year for 4 hours. The displays- same same, always great to watch, and the hours somehow managed to tick by. The MRH 90 taipans looked very similar to the Blackhawks, so unless you were looking for it, I don’t think you’d have known they were different. The aim of the day, just to catch the 7.04pm flare drop. Finally, the time came, and what looked like a camp stove flew slowly across the top of me. That was it. Devastated. To go from F111 dump and burns to F18A’s dropping flares, to an F18A just flying across with a barely visible afterburner.. I questioned whether it was actually worth it. Oh well. Times are tough.
